Two vastly improved Seattle-Metro schools came ready to wrestle. Roosevelt even juggled their full lineup in an attempt to upset the Vikings! After the first six matches the Roughriders were up by one point, before the Viking slammed home the ax in seven straight wins--6 by fall.
The Garfield Bulldogs had 6 forfeits and were out-matched by the Vikings who recorded 5 falls. |

The Vikings went to work Tuesday in their double dual at Woodinville against Bothell and Franklin.
In the first match against Bothell, the Vikings pinned seven and David Stults beat Leonard in Overtime to secure a runaway victory. Against Franklin, there were only five matches wrestled, three of which were quick pins: Nick Lawton :36 sec; Rob McGrouther :28 sec; and a new "fastest pin" by Daniel Nelson 0:17 seconds.
The Vikings go into the break undefeated in KingCo with the toughest matches yet to come, after the vacation break, in the new year.
JV Results: Pat Castelli, Joelle Moreau (5), Bryan Nosky (2), and Aldo Torres (2) were winners. |

The Vikings wrestled well in the tough, 24th Annual Snohomish Panther Classic tournament. Placers included brothers Josh and Daniel Nelson, and Mat Gastineau. The "Iceman" Gastineau recorded 3 more pins to lead the team in falls, including a new fifteen second "fastest pin". Also, congratulations to sophomore Andrew Kienest (189) who stepped-in for a sick Jordan Krich and won two matches and narrowly missed placing in his first high school tournament.

In the first of six matches to finish January's League championship march, the Vikings defeated an improved Beaver team and cross-town rival Juanita.
The Rebels sent more wrestlers to State than any other KingCo team last season and the Juanita coaches juggled their line-up in an effort to upset the Vikings. However, key pins by Nick Lawton, Joel Cruse, brothers Joey & Jacob Speed and an AMAZING fall by Gary Koukal sealed the Viking victory!

One of Inglemoor's most respected rivals came limping into Viking-ville and was forced to forfeit four weights--spotting the Vikings a 24 point lead, that the Inglemoor squad took and ran away with--never looking back.
Every victory by the Vikings was by pin, including gutsy matches by Rob McGrouther, Joey Speed, and Joel Cruse.
In an exciting '06 KingCo quarterfinal "revenge" match, Shea "The General" Unti pinned last years 4th place District finisher!

EVERYONE was treated to outstanding matches.
The Vikings wrestled well in both matches, below are some highlights!
vs. Woodinville
Rob, Cody, & Nick wrestle tough against skilled opponents and keep it close.
Mat Gastineau scores an upset with a pin in overtime! Josh Nelson easily defeats the retuning KingCo Champion.
vs. Redmond
Rob McGrouther set the tone early with a critical 1st match pin as the Vikings outlasted the toughness of the Mustangs in the lower weights to win by a narrow 2 point margin.

A fired-up home town was ready for some action with lots of loyal fans in the stands to root on their wrestlers and Viking faithful ready to honor and say farewell to the seniors in their last home match.
The definition of "frustration" is when outcome does not meet expectation, and such was the night Monday when a sparse Kangaroo JV squad showed-up at Inglemoor, for a make-up match previously cancelled (Jan. 11) due to snow.
Lake Washington coaches wanted to rest their varsity and keep them healthy and ready for the district tournament starting in three days because they already had wrestled: Tues, Wed(2), Thurs(2), Sat(2)--seven matches in five days.
That didn't stop the Vikings from putting on a quick exhibition against the nine opponents that did show-up to wrestle AND importantly, pay tribute to seven outstanding seniors:
Cody Bender, Josh Nelson, Brett Petrie, Joel Rechenmacher, Jacob Speed, David Stults,
& Shea Unti. Print your own Senior Night program- HERE
ICEMAN WATCH: Gastineau is one pin away from tying the school record.

The Vikings will send Jordan and Shea to State, with Jacob as an alternate. The day was a rollercoaster of emotions as two alternates (McGrouther & Crandall) gained entry into the tournament and the Vikings started the day strong with 3 of 5 pigtail match victories (McGrouther, Stults, Kienest), then met with tragedy as Senior Captain Josh Nelson was lost with a tournament-ending ankle injury. The "Hammer"--who had really worked hard all spring, summer, & fall, didn't deserve to have his season cut short of his goal.
Jordan rebounded from a tough semi-finals match, and pinned 3 on the day to chase Mat Gastineau, who had still ANOTHER pin enroute to a new record of 22.
Congratulations to ALL 13 of the outstanding individuals--and their wonderful performances---who competed in regionals.!

The Vikings had three participants (Rowan Pilger, Jordan Krich, & Shea Unti) and an alternate (Jacob Speed) in Mat Classic XIX.
Congratulations to the Vikings Rowan Pilger & Jordan Krich who were only two of the six KingCo wrestlers to place in State (list at end)!
In the first Girls State Wrestling Championship, Rowan had a close semi-final match loss, before rebounding to earn 3rd, including three pins on the weekend. Rowan is now part of history and can be proud of her outstanding accomplishment. What's more impressive is Rowan wrestled in the160 pound weight class weighing only 149 pounds. Her three pins in the State Championship, gave her 17 on the year!
Jordan Krich, in his second appearance in the Tacoma Dome came away with a 7th place medal and two more pins to tie the school pin record with Mat Gastineau at 22.
Jordan's weight was one of the most competitive and featured some of the state's most highly touted wrestlers, making his placing all the more special!
